Welcome to The Big Life Project!

This is your invitation to focus on leading a richer, more meaningful life - whatever that looks like for you.

For me, it’s about gratitude and giving, my creative life as a writer, and building my physical, mental and emotional resilience after years of chronic illness. Anyone feeling their way toward the life they most desire faces some of the same challenges.

It’s exciting and challenging to grow / redirect a life. It doesn’t always go how I planned. (Shocking, huh?) Every bump in the road makes me that much more determined to live by the Project tagline: Grow Your Heart. Live Big.

The Project offers stories, techniques, video interviews and questions to keep that focus fresh in your mind and mine.

If you see something here that strikes a chord or raises a question, please leave a comment. Don’t be shy. Reader comments are better than caffeine…maybe even better than chocolate.

Thanks for visiting. I hope to see you often!

  1. my heart loves you. I was just telling a girlfriend about your awesomeness the other day. I may put her in contact with you or one of the team. Either way, you have been in my thoughts and in my heart. Big Hug…W

P.S. I will introduce you to all the Wendys next week. More to come…

    • Now, where did I learn to do that? :-) It’s been a shiney kind of day! Good to have the project up and running, and so good to see the comments! Thank you!

  3. How Exciting! And bright&shiny too!
From the first time we ‘hungout’ together on G+ I could tell you were a girl with a great big heart.
I hope I can contribute to this project in a meaningful way and I cannot wait to see you succeed in this and in all your endeavors!
    Thanks for doing this!

    • Thanks, Pamela! I love to see people from my various worlds coming together on this site. I am so glad for the opportunity to help each other along our chosen paths!

    • I love that you have made your theater dream into reality, and now being a playwright and director, too. Inspiration for me every day!

  4. Hi Shelly,
I loved the videos you posted. While I am really sorry to hear how much you have struggled with your health, you are learning things of priceless value. Sometimes it takes an illnes to put things in perspective. I can empathize with you because I have chronic PTSD and had to give up my teaching career, among other things. Like you, I am now writing. And while you are creating this ‘Big Project’, I am writing a book about what my PTSD is teaching me and also what will happen if we don’t address the child abuse that is a frightening reality in too many children’s lives. I agree with you that we need to do what we love to do, because that gives us the energy to keep on going. And I think sharing our stories is a gift we can give others to help them empower themselves, which is also exciting. I wish you all the very best for you “Big Project” and look forward to returning to check it out. Oh, and I just love your expressive face!

    • I’m giving you a big, expressive grin right now, Juliet. :-D

When I first saw your website and art, I knew we had a lot in common. While I don’t subscribe to the saying that suffering is required for art, it does focus the will as it shoves in a particular direction. Have you read Eric Meisel’s work? He believes that strongly creative people are compelled to create meaning for themselves. Extracting valuable lessons and stories from the most difficult periods in our lives qualifies as far as I’m concerned.

May you continue to heal, transmuting pain into wisdom and stories. I look forward to hearing more about your writing and Big Life. See you here and and on G+!
